The goal of the COIN-OR Cup prize is to reward effective utilization of COIN-OR or valuable contributions to COIN-OR. This year's winner, Couenne, can be cited for both! Couenne effectively utilized several COIN-OR projects and contributed to their development. It has the advantage of an extensible solver library/framework and is available as a part of COIN-OR. Finally, it is quite valuable as a general MINLP solver with the performance on par with other state-of-the-art solvers in this class, as testified by several users in distinct application areas.
